Accrediting Agencies
There are two major accrediting bodies for coroner and medical examiner offices:
- International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners
- National Association of Medical Examiners
Both promote rigorous standards in areas such as ethics, professionalism, death investigation, and overall operation.
The counties that have achieved these accreditations have proven that their policies and operations meet or exceed international standards.
Individual Board Certification
Additionally, death investigators of any level (coroners, medical examiners, and all those practicing beneath them) can elect to be board certified, meaning they demonstrate mastery of death investigation concepts and standards.
You can sort our directory by certification.
