Appointed Coroners and Medical Examiners
In Pennsylvania, some counties (mostly those with "home rule" forms of government) employ a chief medicolegal death investigator who is appointed by the county leaders, such as the county administrator or the board of commissioners.
Depending on county governance, the person my be titled coroner or medical examiner.
The appointed coroner or medical examiner serves at the pleasure of county administration.
